Súle Greg Wilson
AMERICAN GRIOT and URBAN SHAMAN
A community musician for over fifty years, Súle Greg Wilson, M.A., has played and danced ceildhs, jooks, gamelon, bembé, djembe, batucada, marches, hora and roda. He embraces tradition for the keys to spirit and survival inherent within. True to Sankofa, he passes those lessons forward, making it part of his work as inter-cultural healer, Reiki master, yogi, and life path coach.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Súle attended Oberlin College and New York University, and has had careers as an archivist (the New York Stock Exchange, the Smithsonian Institute) and an educator (New York City & Tempe, AZ Public Schools, Arizona State University). A founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, he is blessed to have performed and/or recorded with Babatunde Olatunji, Pura Fé, Taj Mahal, Peter Rowan, Abraham Laboriel, Ruthie Foster, Ysaye Maria Barnwell, Mike Seeger, the International African-American Ballet, John Sebastian, Laura Love and others.
Wilson is the author of The Drummer’s Path: Moving the Spirit with Ritual and Traditional Drumming, and produced the Drumpath Rhythms DVD/book, as well as numerous CD projects. His work has graced stage and screen, print and the street. More information can be found at www.SuleGregWilson.com
