If you know a few chords, this course will give you tools to play better and expand your repertoire. In this class, you will:
Learn new chords and strumming patterns;
Learn to change chords faster; think like a musician; create lively grooves, and beautiful textures;
Learn to identify notes on the fretboard; play scales and melody lines; connect chords via walking bass lines; improve your tone;
Improve your rhythm;
Learn new songs.
Course topics include new chords; syncopated strumming patterns; techniques for faster chord changes; reading song charts, chord diagrams, and guitar tablature; finger picking; counting music; and a small dose of Music Theory.
Classroom activities include playing; finger dexterity exercises; rhythm training workouts; strumming calisthenics; watch-listen-try; demonstration; explanation.
Repertoire includes popular classics and perennial favorites.
Instructor is experienced, organized, patient, supportive, clear.
Pre-requisites: Please know how to tune your guitar, and play at least seven chords.
To each class, please bring a steel-string or nylon-string guitar, a pencil or pen, a notebook, a capo, and an electronic tuner.
Course materials fee of $15 will be collected at the first class meeting.
