Leading in Music

As the world continues to pivot and adapt to rapid change and shifting ideals on the role of the arts in our country, the music industry has experienced an immense amount of change in a short period of time. From debates about live-streaming concerts, the use of AI, the adoption of new DEI industry standards, and the deterioration of federal funding and support, the music industry has been forced to rethink how it does business and who gets a seat at the table in decision making. Through this change, a new generation of music leaders has emerged in the Bay Area, and while they may focus on different genres of music, their challenges are very similar.

Join us for a panel discussion with some of these new leaders who are navigating running a music organization during turbulent times. The 90-minute discussion will include Clayton Shelvin (Executive Director, The Freight), Lyz Luke (Executive Director, Living Jazz), Sarah Travis (Executive Director, Ashkenaz) and Isaac Bunch (General Manager, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale). Gain insight on the challenges they face while keeping some of the Bay Area’s most important music institutions afloat. The conversation will end with a Q&A from the audience and a meet-and-greet with the leaders.

This event will be presented in person and livestreamed.
