Spring I: DJ Hamouris

The traditional way to play mountain dulcimer focuses on fretting the melody string(s) and strumming along with the rhythm of the tune. A couple of tunes will be presented in each class meeting, getting familiar with strums & some flat-picking. DAD tuning, no 6+ fret needed!

DJ Hamouris is a composer, teacher, recording artist, and producer of online dulcimer festivals. She teaches mountain dulcimer at The Freight in Berkeley, CA, and in her east bay home. Events she produces include: Dulcimoon Virtual Dulcimer Festival – woman led all welcome; Baritone Dulcimer Day; and Dulcimoon Talks – twice-monthly, live-streamed conversations on YouTube, shining a light on women in the dulcimer community. Since March 2020 she has participated in many global virtual dulcimer festivals including Redwood Dulcimer Day, QuaranTUNE Virtual Dulcimer Festival, NGFDA Virtual Dulcimer Festival, Blues on Mountain Dulcimer Day, and multiple lessons on DulcimerCrossing.com. Musically versatile, she performs with her husband, Buffalo, as The DulciMates. DJ has produced 6 recordings and two books of mountain dulcimer tablature, “Indian Summer” and “Baritone Folio”.
