Arpeggio-Based Soloing

Description
At the request of the instructor, wearing of masks is required for all students
Create better solos by discovering new sources of perfect notes, and work on strategies for playing them! Rather than relying upon Pentatonic Scales or modes of the Major Scale, we’ll learn to build solos from the constituent notes of each chord in the underlying progression.
In this class, we will:
Learn how to identify the notes in every chord
Learn to play arpeggio notes in several locations on the fretboard
Sharpen our fretboard identification skills
Develop strategies for fluidly playing a sequence of arpeggios
Improve our music-counting ability
Classroom activities include explanation, demonstration, dexterity training, counting exercises, soloing, and comping.
Instructor is experienced, organized, patient, supportive, clear.
Prerequisites: Please know how to play at least fourteen chords, and be open to thinking theoretically about chords and chord progressions. No knowledge of arpeggios required.
To each class, please bring a steel-string or nylon-string guitar, a pencil or pen, a notebook, a capo, and an electronic tuner.
Course materials fee of $15 will be collected at the first class meeting.
